Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer and other sexually transmitted diseases, especially important for young women and men.

What is HPV and why is vaccination necessary?
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common sexually transmitted viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes. High-risk types (16, 18) cause 70% of cases of cervical cancer, as well as cancers of the anal canal, penis, vagina, vulva and pharynx. Low-risk (6, 11) lead to genital warts (condylomas). Vaccination builds immunity before contact with the virus, reducing the risk of cancer by 80-90% when administered at 9-16 years of age.

Who should get vaccinated and when?
It is recommended for girls and boys from 9-14 years of age (2 doses with an interval of 6 months), before the onset of sexual activity — the effectiveness is maximum. Adults under 45 years of age — 3 doses (0, 1-2, 6 months). Gardasil-9 (9 types) or Cervarix (2 types) vaccines are safe for both sexes, do not affect fertility and do not treat existing infections.

Advantages and effectiveness
Protects against 90% of genital warts and >90% of vaginal/anal cancers.
Reduces precancerous changes of the cervix (CIN).
Protection lasts at least 14 years, possibly for life.

How is the vaccination carried out?
intramuscularly into the shoulder, without an HPV test in advance. After vaccination, 15 minutes of observation. The course does not cancel screening (PAP tests, colposcopy). In Turkey, the vaccine is available in Antalya clinics according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

Myths and contraindications
The myth: "The vaccine causes cancer" has been refuted by research. Contraindications: allergy to ingredients, pregnancy (postponed). A gynecologist's consultation is required to select a scheme.
